The Gay & Lesbian Liaison Unit of D.C. Metro Police was involved in the following cases this week. The GLLU assists in a wide variety of cases and its involvement does not imply any person or business is gay or transgender.

  • A juvenile male was attacked about 2 a.m. Saturday while waiting for a bus at the 400 block of H Street, N.W. The youth and a few friends were approached by several young black males who began cursing and making homophobic comments, police said. A physical attack ensued but the youth was not injured.

The suspects fled the scene prior to police arrival. Police are looking for two black teens between the ages of 15 and 18. One is 5 feet, 10 inches tall, about 165 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a striped shirt. The other was described as being about 5 feet 8 inches tall, 150 pounds, with brown eyes, black hair and a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a white shirt.

Police classified the attack a hate crime.

  • A domestic violence incident occurred on the 4200 block of Meade Street, N.E. on Sunday about 2:30 a.m. A man whom police did not identify was charged with assaulting an officer, threat to do bodily harm and domestic violence assault. No injuries were reported.
  • GLLU officers worked with public safety officials at Catholic University on Sunday to develop two suspects of a prior hate crime incident on campus. No charges were filed.
  • A family fight occurred Monday about 10:15 p.m. in the area of Gault Place, N.E. GLLU officers mediated a dispute between parents and a juvenile over the sexual orientation of the youth.
  • GLLU officers on Monday consulted with the U.S. Attorney’s office in reference to a previous conviction in which a Washington man was convicted of multiple stalking and assault charges stemming from 2004. Police said similar complaints have been filed since the man was released from prison. The 2004 incident involved a gay relationship but the current complaintant is a woman, police said. No other details were available.
  • A stalking complaint was filed by an M Street, N.W. man on Monday about 10:40 p.m. He told police his former boyfriend was stalking him. Police gave him information on obtaining a temporary protection order and are working with the U.S. Attorney’s office on an arrest warrant.

Anyone who has been the victim of a crime or has knowledge of a crime is encouraged to contact the GLLU on its 24-hour pager at 1-877-495-5995.  Visit the GLLU online at www.gllu.org.
