Australian comedian Barry Humphries, who created the comedic drag persona Dame Edna Everage, says trans women who undergoes gender reassignment surgery are “mutilated men” and Caitlyn Jenner is a “publicity-seeking ratbag” in an interview with The Telegraph released on Monday.

Humphries,81, was asked to comment on fellow Australian comedian Germaine Greer’s remarks that trans women like Jenner are men “who believe they are women and have themselves castrated”.

“I agree with Germaine! You’re a mutilated man, that’s all,” Humphries told The Telegraph.“Self-mutilation, what’s all this carry on? Caitlyn Jenner — what a publicity-seeking ratbag.”

“It’s all given the stamp — not of respectability, but authenticity or something. If you criticize anything you’re racist or sexist or homophobic,” Humphries continued on.

His transphobic remarks weren’t the only controversial part of his interview. Humphries also said the reason “Downton Abbey” has been so successful in the United States is because “there are no black people in it.”
