He gave a special shout out to his fiancé Olympic diver Tom Daley, 21, for his support by posting a photo of the couple saying goodbye on Instagram.

” … and to my best friend and love of my life @tomdaley1994 for keeping me strong through the highs and lows of this massive undertaking. I’m going to miss the hell out of you these next few months. Onward,” Black captioned the photo.

“When We Rise” will follow LGBT men and women during the ending of the U.S. civil rights movement.

“After 3 long years of research, interviews and writing, it’s now time to leave home & shoot #WhenWeRise. So grateful to all the LGBTQ heroes who’ve shared their stories and struggles,” Black included in the caption.

According to Deadline, Gus Van Sant, director of “Milk,” will direct the first two-hour episode.  Black and Van Sant will also executive produce the show together along with Laurence Mark.
