Dolly Parton’s Pure & Simple tour is scheduled to kick off inĀ Greensboro, N.C. on June 3 in the wake of the state’s HB2 law.

Parton addressed her decision to still perform in the state during a conference call for the Pure & Simple tour and album of the same name, Queerty reports.

ā€œOh, Iā€™ve been seeinā€™ all that commotion,ā€ Parton said in the conference call.ā€œA lot of people are canceling shows and all that. I have no plans to cancel the show. I think I serve better from the stage. I think everybody should be treated great and with respect and everybody knows that about me. I can address that from the stage.ā€

ā€œThrough the years everybody has known that I have an open, generous heart and I believe that all people should be treated with respect,ā€ Parton continued. ā€œI really donā€™t like to get caught up into controversial issues, and I certainly donā€™t think itā€™s fair to the public. I can address whatever my thoughts are, if need be, from the stage.”

While musicians such as Bruce Springsteen and Pearl Jam have cancelled their North Carolina show dates, artists such as Cyndi Lauper have chosen to still perform, but to donate proceeds from the concert to organizations like Equality North Carolina.
