American Apparel has joined forces with Human Rights Campaign and the Ally Coalition to create its “Make America Gay Again” Pride 2016 collection.
The collection, a play on Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan, includes T-shirts and tank tops with rainbow flags and a tote bag with the words “Lesbian/Gay/Bi/Transgender/Queer/Ally” written in rainbow letters.
T-shirts and tank tops also have the words “Make America Gay Again” in rainbow letters. A red baseball cap, similar to Trump’s, also features the slogan.
Jack Antonoff, who co-founded The Ally Coalition with his sister Rachel, said in a statement:
“Rachel and I founded The Ally Coalition to inspire fans to take action for LGBTQ Equality. During a year where LGBTQ rights are being threatened all over the states, everyone is responsible for coming together and challenging these injustices. I’m proud that The Ally Coalition is joining with American Apparel and The Human Rights Campaign to #MakeAmericaGayAgain.”
Items are available for purchase in store and online. 30% of sales from the collection will support the Equality Act.
The 2024 New York City Pride Parade wound through the streets of Manhattan and past the historic Stonewall Inn on Sunday, June 30.
