Lady Gaga will star opposite Bradley Cooper in the remake of “A Star is Born,” Deadline reports.

Cooper, who will make his directorial debut with the film, will play a Hollywood actor whose celebrity stardom is on the decline. He meets an aspiring actress, played by Lady Gaga, whose own stardom is rapidly on the come up.

BeyoncƩ had been in talks to play the lead role but dropped out in 2012. At the time, Clint Eastwood had also been attached to the project.

Judy Garland played the leading role in the 1954 original film and Barbra Streisand starred in the 1976 remake.

This will be Lady Gaga’s first studioĀ movie leading role. She previously starred in “American Horror Story: Hotel,” and won a Golden Globe award for her performance. Ā She will be starring in the show’s upcoming sixth season.
