President-elect Donald Trump has been named Time’s Person of the Year.

Time Editor-in-Chief Nancy Gibbs explained in an essay for the magazine how Time decided to give Trump the honor.

“This is the 90th time we have named the person who had the greatest influence, for better or worse, on the events of the year. So which is it this year: better or worse?” Gibbs writes in the magazine.

“The challenge for Donald Trump is how profoundly the country disagrees about the answer…. 2016 was the year of his rise; 2017 will be the year of his rule, and like all newly elected leaders, he has a chance to fulfill promises and defy expectations,” Gibbs continues.

In his interview, Trump says he doesn’t believe Russia influenced the election but sees the benefit of being on good terms.

“I don’t believe they interfered. That became a laughing point, not a talking point, a laughing point. Any time I do something, they say ‘oh, Russia interfered,'” Trump says. “Why not get along with Russia? And they can help us fight ISIS, which is both costly in lives and costly in money. And they’re effective and smart. It could be Russia. And it could be China. And it could be some guy in his home in New Jersey.”

Trump also says he hopes people will judge his presidency beginning from the election and not his inauguration.

“I hope I’m judged from the time of the election, as opposed to from Jan. 20, because the stock market has had a tremendous bounce,” Trump says. “And people are seeing very good things for business in this country.”

Time notes that President-elects have usually been named Person of the Year including George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004 and Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012.
