The Knot chooses Elena Delle Donne and Amanda Clifton as ‘Dream Wedding’ winners

this is the publication’s first same-sex couple

Washington Mystics star Elena Delle Donne and her fiancée Amanda Clifton are the Knot’s first same-sex recipients for its 2017 “Dream Wedding Couple.”

The Knot gifts the selected couple with the ceremony of their dreams. New York-based wedding planner Jove Meyer is creating an environmentally friendly ceremony for the couple with locally sourced food and flowers. After the ceremony, leftover flowers will be given to hospitals and leftover food will be donated to homeless shelters.

Instead of registering for gifts, the couple is asking for donations to the Elena Delle Donne Foundation, which benefits people with special needs and those suffering from Lyme Disease.

Clifton, who is director of the De11e Donne Academy, and Delle Donne met four years ago through a mutual friend. Last year, Clifton popped the question to Donne at Lake Michigan. Their Great Dane Wrigley did the honors with the ring attached to his collar.

As for their wedding rings, the brides-to-be will add their own flair. Clifton’s band will be white gold and Delle Donne’s will be rose.

The couple plans to tie the knot on Nov. 3.
