Pete Buttigieg welcomes Lil Nas X to LGBTQ ‘family’

The presidential hopeful is ‘thrilled and inspired’ by the rapper

Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg praised Lil Nas X for “standing in his truth” after the country-trap artist came out on the last day of Pride month.

“@LilNasX has gone from viral sensation to groundbreaking musician. As a fan, Iā€™m thrilled and inspired to see him standing in his truth as a member of the LGBTQ community. Welcome to the family,” Buttigieg tweeted on Tuesday.

Lil Nas X, known for his hit song “Old Town Road, came out as part of the LGBTQ community on June 30. The 20-year-old tweeted a clip of his song “C7osure,” which features lyrics about breaking free, and a rainbow emoji. He also tweeted a photo of his album cover which included rainbow lights displayed on a building.

“Deadass thought i made it obvious,” Lil Nas X tweeted.

He also slammed some of the homophobic responses, including sexual jokes about his song “Old Town Road,” he received with memes and joking tweets.
