Elon Musk’s trans daughter files for name change to cut ties with him
The 18-year-old has asked to be recognized as female and have the name Vivian Jenna Wilson.
The former Xavier Alexander Musk, Elon Musk’s transgender daughter, has filed to change her name in accordance with the change in her gender identity. By doing so, she intends to cut ties to her biological father. The 18-year-old has asked to be recognized as female with the name Vivian Jenna Wilson.
The petition was filed in April at the California Superior Court in Santa Monica, as recorded in the court document. At the time she had just turned 18, the age of majority in California, and she made the request because she no longer wanted to “be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.” A hearing on the petition is scheduled for later this month.
Her mother Justine Musk, who was married to Elon Musk from 2000 until they divorced in 2008, tweeted as the story started circulating.
Elon Musk hasn’t commented publicly in response to her petition. No further details about the daughter-father rift were disclosed.
Elon Musk, the TESLA and SpaceX chief, has been criticized for anti-transgender remarks in the past. In 2020, after tweeting “pronouns suck,” Musk further tweeted, “I absolutely support trans, but all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare.”
Elon Musk has also been criticized for his political views, which reportedly lean right. A Politico report this week claims Musk is inclined to support Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for president in 2024. DeSantis famously signed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, banning K-3 classroom mentions of sexual orientation and gender identity.
On Father’s Day, Musk tweeted, “I love all my kids so much.”
